It’s safe to say that, when Nicki Minaj smirks at you while saying “no shade, no no no, no shade”, there’s a fairly good chance she’s throwing a fairly large amount of shade your way.
While accepting her fifth consecutive trophy for Best Female Hip Hop Artist at the BET Awards earlier today, Ms. Minaj tossed some major barbz at her fellow nominee, newcomer Iggy Azalea, ushering in what will hopefully be a very entertaining Twitter beef.
The trouble began earlier in the night, when Minaj was filmed dancing in a somewhat mocking fashion while Iggy performed her hit ‘Fancy’.
Things escalated later in the evening, when during her acceptance speech, Minaj sort of but not really but actually totally came out and accused Iggy Azalea of paying others to write her rhymes for her.
Though she didn’t mention Azalea by name, everyone totally knew what she was referring to.
“What I want the world to know about Nicki Minaj is that when you hear Nicki Minaj spit, Nicki Minaj wrote it,” she said, to thunderous applause.
“No no no no, no shade, no no, no shade, no no, no shade,” she then said, adding massive insult to injury.
Nicki Minaj’s new album The Pink Print is coming out at some point later this year. Iggy Azalea’s aggrieved response is hopefully coming a lot sooner than that.
