New Videos: Darwin Deez, Delorean

From the alliterative AV might of Darwin Deez and Delorean come two sunny new music videos to herald impending weekend festivities, whatever they may be. First up is Spain’s Delorean, the sun inflected dance four-piece whose third studio LP, Subiza, just might usurp Wavves’ self-appointed “King Of The Beach” title. If they’re Balearic seaside vibes aren’t apparent enough on record, the band’s breezy new clip for “Real Love” takes every Summer trope of this year – the beach, ridiculously attractive young people and animals – and mixes them into a hazy visual cocktail documenting the best day of your life. Vibes abound, obviously.

Some find Darwin Deez’s hopeless romantic shtick annoyingly twee. They’re the same people who eat snake intestines and cough on babies. I mean, what’s not to love? Dude’s the most endearing figure in music today. But likability alone does not a good song make and Deez’s not so secret weapon is his ability to craft brain penetrating hooks and envelope them with seemingly off-key melodies, a longing croon and sprightly rhythms comprised of clicks and claps. The winsome guitar pop of “Constellations” is no exception. The track’s wide-eyed wonderment is perfectly complimented with a Wes Anderson inspired clip comprised of a dream girl, faded cinematography and camel coloured suits.
