New Modest Mouse Video – “Sattelite Skin”

The mainstream appeal of Modest Mouse can be attributed unequivocally to “Float On” that ubiquitous slice of mid-2000’s indie pop that garnered, among other things, guest spots on The OC and an appearance in the most popular platform for delusions of grandeur – Guitar Hero.

The problem with a breakout hit of that magnitude is the Seattle sextet share neither the populist appeal nor the transparent pop sensibilities of say, fellow ’04 break out stars Franz Ferdinand. A fact made painfully apparent to anyone who’s spent time with “The Moon & Antarctica” or further still “The Lonesome Crowded West”. But hey that’s why we love them.

To remedy the situation the band have enlisted Tool collaborator Kevin Willis to scare everyone away in the new video for “Satellite Skin” the first single from “No One’s First And You’re Next”. Kudos to any Director who manages to blend cult-like toddlers, aliens and Hitchcock-esque birds into one cohesive video.
