New Kele Video “Everything You Wanted”

When you think about it Kele Okereke’s general attractiveness, soulful croon, ability to cry on cue and mastery of the earnest but aloof camera eyes favoured by come-hither models and thespians with zero emotional range makes him the ideal candidate for any generic UK boy band of the last twenty years. If he could rap he’d be the prototype for a new urban guy/emotional guy hybrid that could easily impregnate women, men, animals and inanimate objects everywhere with saccharine declarations of love, puppy dog eyes and suggestive dance moves.

Thankfully he’s not. And though Kele’s electronics-heavy solo project does exist in the realm of pop, the flourishes of rhythmic weirdness and seemingly atonal vocal melodies keep it more Bloc Party than Block Party if you know what I mean. Below Kele wanders the streets of New York City and enunciates very, very clearly in the new video for “Everything You Wanted”, taken form his debut solo album The Boxer.
