If you’ve been guzzling down the Jasmine tea surrounding Miley Cryus, Liam Hemsworth, Brody Jenner, Kaitlynn Carter, Spencer Pratt and weed bouquets as of late, prepare to top up because the internet has gone wild in their analyses of Miley’s ‘Slide Away’ video.

‘Slide Away’, which is a standalone single from her 2019 EP She Is Coming, recounts a once-fortifiable relationship that begins to erode and grow apart of time. Given that the song was released about a week after the announcement of MiLi’s separation, it’s not a far reach at all to suggest the song is a direct commentary about their marriage’s demise.

With lyrics such as “Move on, we’re not 17 / I’m not who I used to be / You say that everything changed / You’re right, we’re grown now”, many have suggested that Miley’s growth, and Liam’s hesitancy to accept said growth, was the main cause of their demise. All speculative tea, of course, but quenching tea nonetheless.

Where was I at 17, you ask? Great question. I was bopping my bussy to ‘We Can’t Stop’, which has coincidentally drawn quite the comparison to the new video. This would make sense, given that this is the exact time period that Miley is claiming to have moved on from.

Under the video, Youtube user @Den Pan pointed out the possible symbol associated with the 10 of hearts card floating in the pool. “That 10 of hearts card under water at 1:23 means so deep! 10 years of love all drowned. This video is such a masterpiece!” they commented.

Den’s sentiments have been mimicked online by quite a few Twitter users.

Side note: Liam didn’t wear a panda head in Borgore‘s ‘Decisions’ music video – he wore a unicorn head – but him and Miley did supposedly have matching panda outfits… so, I guess that’s something, maybe?

Last month, Liam took to Instagram to share the news of their separation: “Hi all, just a quick note to say that Miley and I have recently separated and I wish her nothing but health and happiness going forward.”

No matter what rumours swirl around the web about their relationship, the truth of the matter is that we’ll probably never know what actually went down. They were together for a fucking long time and it still mustn’t be easy on either of them, so we wish them all the best.
