Psych-pop Brooklynites, MGMT, announced the details for their forthcoming record Congratulations a few weeks back, and now news has just come off the wire that they’ll be embarking on a world tour to play the new tunes.
They are going to be dropping into Australia for only one show – at The Metro in Sydney on 6 April, which seems kind of strange considering they have a huge fan base here – many of whom will be royally pissed they won’t be able to attend since the Metro’s capacity is 1,350. Also, due to the forecasted popularity of this show, a ticket limit of two per person will be enforced to ensure fans have maximum opportunity to secure tickets. It’s going to get ugly at the box offices the day these babies go on sale…
However, there is a curious website up Where Is MGMT that hints that something else is in the works for the band’s trip to Oz. The website states the following:
“You have the chance to be part of an extraordinary MGMT event. The MGMT mobile will be visiting 6 cities, and we are challenging YOU to come find it! We will reveal clues to the location 1 hour prior to arrival. The first 10 people to this location will be part of a very special MGMT experience. Be sure to stay tuned as we reveal each city below.”
Annoying time consuming band scavenger hunt by the sounds of it – definitely something for hardcore fans only as it reeks of effort… But it also has the whiff of several extra shows that are being kept on the hush. Time will reveal all.
General tickets will be released on Thursday 11 March at 9am at The Metro Theatre and Ticketek .
