Say G’Day To The Young Aussie Producer Who’s Worked W/ Flume & Kendrick

When you think about a producer that’s worked with music heavyweights like FlumeKendrick Lamar, Vince Staples, and A$AP Rocky, you’d almost immediately think of some young lad who’s doing pretty alright on the ones and twos.

Nope, not this time pal.

Meet KUČKA – a Perth-based dreamy pop producer and singer who has had her sound on tracks like A$AP’s ‘Fashion Killa’ and Flume’s ‘Hyperreal’, which is an absolutely mammoth achievement to have under her belt in five years of being KUČKA.

KUČKA is the moniker for Laura Jane Lowther, who has been working on the solo project since 2012. She’s previously won a spot on Laneway Festival through Triple J Unearthed, been showcased at SXSW, and joined Flume onstage at Splendour In The Grass, and we’re stoked to have her over on the eastern side of the country for the upcoming Listen Out and Field Day festivals.

If you’re not already wildly impressed by KUČKA, then take a couple of minutes to hear her strong vibes on ‘Yeah Right’ from Vince Staples. Yeah, that’s Kendrick on there too.

She’s had an absolute pearler of a year, picking up a $15,000 grant from the Australia Council of the Arts, which is going straight into producing and putting out her debut album; a follow-up to her 2015 EP, Unconditional. Tbh I’m so excited to hear more from KUČKA.

Her own stuff is ethereal, intricate and glitchy, and she considers herself an “aural surrealist”, which is an incredibly good way to put it.

Her earlier stuff reminds me of SOPHIE, but not as hard-sounding or abrasive. Meanwhile, Unconditional sounds like FKA Twigs and Grimes mixed together. It’s good. It’s real good.

With looped staccatos of industrial-tinged beats blended effortlessly with dreamy pop-inspired vocals, KUČKA is someone that you should absolutely not sleep on at Listen Out at the end of the month.

Make sure you check her our on Facebook and Instagram because she’s gunna be worth keeping an eye on.
