Mani Calls Peter Hook “Self-Centred Sellout”

In yet another Twitter outburst this week, Primal Scream bassist Mani has given the “suck on that” to Joy Division’s Peter Hook.

He Tweeted:

“Three things visible from space, Great Wall of China, Peter Hook’s wallet stuffed with Ian Curtis’ blood money, Man City’s empty trophy cabinet… he ain’t got time for me now he’s getting fortunes for dragging his mates cadaver round the world getting himself paid. Thank fuck… used to adore the man, now he’s a self-centred sellout reduced to hawking his mates corpse around to get paid. And he can’t play… I’ve actually got an ongoing career, so I don’t feel the need to exploit my past glories. I exist in the here and the now!!!”

Peter Hook has recently been on tour to commemorate the 30th anniversary of Joy Division’s seminal debut album, Unknown Pleasures (due out in Australia at the end of the month).

When Pedestrian interviewed Hook in June, he shared some insight into the responsibility of honouring Ian Curtis’ memory in his performances. He said:

“It’s an odd position to be in because you almost feel guilty for enjoying it because of what happened in the past. So it’s quite an odd situation to be in but I’ve lived with Ian everyday since he died. In my office I’m surrounded by pictures of Ian and Joy Division and barely a day goes by without me being reminded of our wonderful past. So I suppose in a strange way I’m actually used to being surrounded by him constantly. I mean, I would like to think that Ian’s up there on his cloud with his harp tapping along going “Come on Hooky give it to them” that would make me very happy. I’d hate to think he was up there tutting disapprovingly. The interesting thing is that Bernard with his band Bad Lieutenant, they play a lot of Joy Division songs as well so it’s not as if I’m the only one from the band doing it. Both of us are actually enjoying our heritage so that’s nice.”

Ironically, Mani, Hook and former Smith’s bassist Andy Rourke were collaborating in a band called Freebass and were due to release an album “It’s a Beautiful Life” on September 20. However, they recently made a statement to NME saying that: “Recent events have made Freebass entirely unviable as a band, and with this in mind, it has been decided that the project should be shelved, rather than placed on hiatus while members pursue their other interests.”

Commenting on this, Mani Tweeted:

“It’s where it belongs mate… in the fucking bargain bin before it’s even released… you live and learn.”

And confirmed he’s going back to Primal Scream:

“I’m getting back with the ‘real’ players tomorrow, thank fuck. Can’t be doing with talentless nostalgia fuckwit whores.”

As we all know, all tirades come to a regretful end:

“Everything is ok. I shouldn’t air my laundry in public. Meltdown time. I need to give this game up, I can’t trust nobody anymore.”

Hmm not really an apology Mani, if that’s what your intention was. But I suppose deleting your Twitter account is a start.
