Maggie Rogers Calls Out Yet Another Incidence Of On-Stage Sexual Harassment

Adventurous pop muso Maggie Rogers has addressed the dipsticks who catcalled her during a performance last night, saying “there is no space for harassment” at her gigs.

Taking to Instagram after her Austin City Limits Live gig at the Moody Theater, Rogers recalled the moment she stood on stage to perform a subdued acoustic encore of her hit Alaska – and the moment directly afterwards, where some guy yelled “take your top off.”

“Another joined in and yelled ‘you cute though’,” she said.

“I was stunned. Furious. Fuming. Confused. And also – on a really basic level – it really hurt my feelings,” Rogers added.

The 25-year-old reaffirmed the fact she’s a person worthy of respect, let alone an artist brave enough to share a “vulnerable” expression of her work.

“I want to use this moment to be very very clear. There is no space for harassment or disrespect or degradation of any kind at my show,” she said.

This is not the first time Rogers has experienced harassing behaviour from her audiences. During a May show at the Sydney Opera House, PEDESTRIAN.TV was on hand to witness a punter wolf-whistle the singer before an a capella encore – a similarly quiet and reflective moment, shot down by regrettable audience input.

“That’s actually considered sexual harassment,” Rogers said at the time. Hopefully she and other artists will stop feeling the need to point that out at their concerts.
