Madonna Expresses Herself: Movies, Malawi & ‘Milk’

Madonna was interviewed by director Gus Van Sant for the latest issue of Interview Magazine.

In the conversation Madonna and Van Sant discuss her charity work in Malawi, her ex-husband Sean Penn’s performance in Van Sant’s film Milk, how the AIDS epidemic impacted her loved ones during her early career in 1980s New York, Seymour Stein (the man who “discovered” Madonna) and Madonna as a filmmaker – including their shared love of Hong Kong director Wong Kar-Wai “the Jimi Hendrix of filmmaking”.

The interview provides a genuinely interesting insight into an undeniably fascinating woman and is well worth a read.

The accompanying photographs were taken by the amazing Mert & Marcus, and pay homage to classic True Blue-era Madonna: lace gloves, fishnet stockings, rows of bangles, and crucifixes.

The shots have needless to say had a little (or a lot) of Photoshop enhancement but at 51 years of age she does look pretty freaking amazing, and there’s no doubt about it: the camera loves her.
