Macklemore To Make A Stand For SSM By Performing ‘Same Love’ At The NRL GF

Folks, we’re all currently dealing with a number of intensely strange worlds at the moment, and they’re all about to collide this Sunday when Macklemore, of all people, takes the stage to make arguably the biggest statement of support for marriage equality that Australia will likely see throughout this entire postal vote process. Seriously.

Macklemore, as you’re probably aware by now, has been tapped to serve as the chief pre-game entertainment at this weekend’s blockbuster NRL Grand Final. The league splurged on the cash for the 34-year-old performer after the AFL scored a coup in successfully courting The Killers as part of a growing Grand Final entertainment arms-race that can only logically end with either league trucking out a hologram of Slim Dusty.

Not only will Macklemore be providing the pre-game entertainment for the game, but he’ll be making some sort of big statement for the Yes movement by performing his “equality anthem,” ‘Same Love.’

Both the NRL and singer Mary Lambert, who will be performing alongside Macklemore come Sunday at ANZ Stadium, confirmed that the chart-topping hit tune will be sung live when Macklemore takes the stage at around 6:30pm on Sunday evening, beaming it not only to the fans in attendance, but the millions of viewers tuning in across Australia.

Well there you bloody well go.

The NRL Grand Final, between the Melbourne Storm and the North Queensland Cowboys, goes down this coming Sunday, with TV coverage starting from mid-day.
