Mac DeMarco Announces Aus Tour With A Sly Nod To Our Lord & Saviour, Russell Coight

After smashing out huge sets at Coachella, Bonnaroo, Primavera Sound, All Points East festival, and a whole bunch more, our favourite maxo-relaxo muso Mac DeMarco is headed down under to catch the best of our summer – and play a few gigs along the way.

The Here Comes Mac DeMarco tour will be kicking off in Auckland on January 8, before tripping around Australia, and Mac’s bringing along a few mates for the shows – Perth’s finest Pond will join him for the whole tour, while Japan’s CHAI – described as “neo-kawaii bubblegum punk” and instantly my new favourite band – will turn it out for the east coast shows. Full femmo punk brats Cold Meat from West Aus will open up the pit for the Perth show on January 18.

Most of the shows are all ages too, which absolutely bloody rules. Make music accessible! It’s what the kids deserve!

Mac’s announcement video flicks through some of the more iconic stalwarts of this fine, sunburnt country; Russell Coight, the Democracy Manifest bloke, the “waiting for a mate” cobber, Marty the Monster copping a walloping from a roo, and beloved Franco Cozzo, before a skeleton sexy dances beside the tour’s dates.

Considering this is all happening at the start of the year, I’m going to go ahead and suspect that Mac might just be showing his face at one of the summer festivals at the turn of the new year – maybe Falls Fest? I’ll put a jug of beer on it.

There’s no word whether Mac will have a similar setup to his Coachella set – where he invited a bunch of people to sit and drink beers in a bunch of deck chairs while he played his set (and everyone choofed back huge doobs), or if he’ll be going through the eight-hour application of that incredible Lizard Man makeup again.

I’m praying he’s not gunna do that because it’s bullshit hot in Aus in January, and I don’t wish that kind of face sweats on my worst of enemies.

Tickets for the whole tour go on sale 1pm (local time) on Thursday, August 1 from the links below. Get right around the Big Mac, folks. This is your essential summer viewing, and all that I request is that Mac bring me one of those sweet Nintendo 64 hats.
