M.I.A’s upcoming video for her debut single ‘XXXO’ has her donning a racy number from Melbourne label DI$COUNT. Designer Nadia Napreychikov recently posted the news on the label’s blog writing:
SOOOOOOOOO EXCITED to have had M.I.A wear one of my grad pieces in her upcoming video for XXXO!!! SHE LOOKS SO GORGEOUS! Also overly pleased to have received a thank you note from her, know how busy she must be and it was just such a lovely thing to do!
The best publicity a label could ever ask for – especially since her music videos are gaining more attention than her actual album (which reviewers have been negging out on). We’ll be keeping an eye out on M.I.A.’s spew-inducing website for when the clip comes out.
Meanwhile, we wonder who she is planning to wear for her wedding – I can’t imagine her donning a conventional white meringue, although there’s no chance she’ll be rushing down the aisle anytime soon.
The London-born rapper has delayed plans to get hitched to her fiancé Benjamin Bronfman until she frees herself from immigration red tape. M.I.A has been refused the right to leave the U.S. after she made controversial comments about the conflict in her parents’ native Sri Lanka and her father’s supposed links to the Tamil Tigers. One thing is she certainly won’t be racing to the altar to get herself a green card.
“That’s what they want me to do, but I’m not going to lose my integrity for that shit… I actually want a nice wedding. I’m not going to blow that… If they’re gonna kick me out, it’s going to be a fight, it’s an important fight to have,” she told The Fader.
