Lorde Teases Us Again With Huge Ballad ‘Liability’ From Her New Album

After Lorde blew back onto the scene with her choppy, dancy lead single Green Light, she’s given us another taste of her new album Melodrama in the form of a far subtler tune: the ballad Liability.

It doesn’t take a genius to interpret the lyrics in this one – its Lorde grappling with the slings and arrows of success and the fact she’s literally 20 years old. She’s 20! I mean cmon:
The truth is I am a toy that people enjoy
Unit all of the tricks don’t work anymore and then they’re bored of me.

What could she be talking about here, team?

She told Zane Lowe – who premiered it – that she was inspired to write this tune after “a moment of sadness in a cab listening to ‘Higher’ by Rihanna and I had a little cry.”

It’s a good one. Listen here:
Melodrama lands on June 16, but at this rate we’ll be hearing much more of it before then.
