Sydney beat wizard Jonti Danilewitz (ex-Danimals, ex-ex-Djanimals) has wasted no time on netting some high profile collabs since moving overseas. On Thursday night he entered the studio with OFWGKTA main man Hodgy Beats. By the end of the night, the song they had written and recorded, ‘Nagoya’, was up on the internet and b*tches be going crazy on it.
The one-time Mark Ronson collaborator relocated to L.A. this year after being the first Aussie signed to Stone’s Throw, a label which currently has Mayer Hawthorne, Aloe Blacc and Dam Funk on the books and is run by legendary DJ Peanut Butter Wolf, who picked Danilewitz personally for the roster. Danilewitz and Hodgy made friends during Odd Future’s recent stay in Sydney for Vivid Live, during which he spent time hanging with the crew in their Kings Cross hotel room.
The love for Jonti has been coming thick and fast, with Questlove from The Roots – a man with nearly 2 million followers- bestowing his tick of approval and international tastemaker blogs from The Fader to Pitchfork picking it up and giving it love. His debut LP, Twirligig, will be released locally in just over a fortnight. Get involved.
