Lineup Announcements From The Tote, Future and Laneway

Today’s lineup announcements brings a mixed bag of emotions for local music fans.

In a bitter sweet end, legendary music venue The Tote will be having one last gig before it closes its doors tonight. The Drones, Dave Graney & The Lurid Yellow Mist, Beaches, Deaf Wish, The Stabs, Dan Kelly’s Dream Band and a heap of other local acts will all be paying tribute to the pub and its infamous sticky carpet. Tickets have sold out but the gig will be streamed live on RRR and PBS so you can gather some friends, huddle around your radio, shed a tear and get all sentimental about that time you saw The White Stripes play to one hundred people.

On a more positive note, St Jeromes have released their final line up announcement and although it doesn’t feature any huge international draw cards I am sure it is enough to get you indie kids salivating. I guess the first announcement was so damn good it was inevitably all going to be down hill from there. Unsigned local acts like Frowning Clouds and Fergus Brown as well as Brooklyn’s Black Gold, will be joining an already stellar lineup including Echo & the Bunnymen, The Black Lips, Daniel Johnston, Florence and the Machine and The XX.

In other festival news, Future Music have released their 2nd line up announcement. Baltimore club kings Spank Rock lead the list, followed by Operater Please, Space Invadas and Bag Raiders. They will be joining a bit of a mixed bag with angular Scots Franz Ferdinand headlining alongside the otherwise dance focused acts including The Prodigy, Booka Shade, David Guetta and Empire of the Sun. Organizers are yet to announce whether punters will be required to keep their shirts on, a la Stereosonic.
