Lily Allen’s ‘Like A Version’ Today Will Gently Caress You Into The Weekend

Our very good friend Lily Allen‘s triple jLike a Version‘ this morning is designed to spark MAX FEELS. My emotions, I’m rolling around in them like a pig in mud.

Allen’s take on Swedish singer Lykke Li‘s single ‘deep end‘ from this years’s so sad so sexy, strips away the synth, drum machine and layered vocals, to just a piano-led lovesick ballad, letting the lyrics make the greatest impact.

It really shows off the Brit‘s incred voice, and feels all too fitting for an Aussie audience, conjuring images of our beloved backyard swimming pools, the deep blue of ’em, and that feeling you had when you were young of diving right to the bottom to collect rings – albeit tinged with a kind of nostalgic melancholy, brought on by the passing of time and also heartbreak.

There’s plenty of heartbreak here, guys. I’m reading it as a dumping, or at the very least a rocky period in a relationship, and going swimming to process all those complicated feelings in the water. We’ve all gone swimming to to get clarity, right?

Anyway, just try not to shed a little bb tear listening to Allen dive into the song’s emotional depths. POW, RIGHT IN THE FEELINGS.

Lily Allen’s national tour kicks off on February 5 in Sydney.
