The Smith Street Band Joins The Already-Stacked Laneway Festival Lineup

If the 2019 Laneway Festival lineup wasn’t already stacked, it’s about to really blow your head clean off your shoulders. With a late entrance, The Smith Street Band have joined the summertime fun, hitting all five of the festival dates across australia.

With the addition of The Smith Street Band, it means there’s a slight reshuffling of the Laneway Festival lineup going on.

The other Smithie on the lineup – Jorja Smith – has unfortunately had to bow out of the festival dates in MelbourneAdelaide, and Fremantle, as it clashes with some small event she as to attend called the Grammy Awards in the US. She’s gone and bloody picked up a nomination for Best New Artist (!!!) so she’ll be off getting accolades instead of playing Laneway’s spiritual home city. I guess that’s alright, we’ll allow it. (Jks that’s huge. Congrats Jorja!)

As always, Triple J Unearthed has announced its winners for the annual Laneway stage openers competition, so if you want to get your ears around some new Aussie music at the fest, make sure you’re there early enough to catch Tasman Keith in Sydney, Sweater Curse in Brisbane, Wing Defense in AdelaideRAT!Hammock in Melbourne, and Carla Geneve in Fremantle.

These choice breakthrough acts join the Laneway Festival lineup alongside headliners Gang Of Youths and Courtney Barnett as well as the swathe of artists in each city including Baker BoyCamp CopeRex Orange CountyDenzel CurryMiddle KidsJon HopkinsMethyl EthylMitskiParquet CourtsClairo, and heaps more.

For the third year in a row, Laneway is bringing back its 1800 LANEWAY helpline, to make sure that all punters are feeling safe and comfortable at the festival. So if you’re feeling unsafe or harassed at any time during any of the dates, you can call 1800LANEWAY (1800-5263-929) or text 0418 491 247 for assistance.

All of the festival dates are still on sale (and Melbourne’s iconic date in Footscray is now a 16+ event), so head along to the Laneway Festival website to grab yourself a ticket. If you were really stinging to see Jorja Smith at the Melb, Adelaide, or Freo dates and you now want to refund your ticket, you gotta do that by January 16 over here.
