Lana Del Rey Is Carrying Out An Exit Strategy From Pop Music

Here’s another omen that the recording career of Lana Del Rey is headed for that JB HiFi discount bin in the sky. She just helped pantherine car makers Jaguar launch the new convertible version of its F-Type sports car – just like a professional spokesmodel from The Price Is Right (refer image above).

Tacking Luxury Vehicle Representative onto her CV is the latest sign of LDR’s ambition to expand her personal brand portfolio. In fact, despite the fact the Internet’s mouthpieces end up eating their own tails in a quest to discard then defend her authenticity as an artist, Lana Del Rey has evolved past her music being the focal selling point of what makes her so blog-worthy.

After ultimately achieving credible music industry cachet as more than just a pair of large lips (evidenced with Vogue cover stories, indie-rap collaborations and awards), she has been distancing herself from the industry via what seems to be a carefully engineered exit strategy which includes aligning herself with non music-related brands like fashion retailer H&M and now Jag.

If you aren’t convinced that this is all part of some calculated career map, she recently went on the record and preempted the end of her pop music tenure in an interview with Vogue Australia.

She told Vogue, “When I was starting, I had a vision of being a writer for film and that’s what I am doing now. I’m so happy. Hopefully I will branch into film work and stay there. That will be my happy place. I’d like to stay in one place for a long time.”

Back in December 2011 when her music was first really breaking out to a wider commercial audience, she indirectly revealed to us that even then music was not an ongoing passion. At the time she told Pedestrian, “I do really like editing. The way I feel about editing now is the way I used to feel about music, which is passionate. I enjoy it.”

The girl is more business savvy and self-aware than most folks give her credit for. Let’s face it, while her album certainly isn’t a bad record at all, it’s hardly an enduring classic and its success was, undeniably, built from her babe-ish qualities and one fantastic single. This Lana Del Rey clearly knows, and she’s smart enough to ride her fame to the next place it leads her, whether it’s writing, film, fashion or whatever. I predict she has maybe one more album in her.
