What do The Horrors, Bruce Springsteen, Primal Scream, Peaches, Lydia Lunch, Grinderman, Mogwai, Iggy Pop, Spiritualized, Julian Cope, Vincent Gallo and Liars have in common? Suicide apparently. Not the act of killing oneself but the highly influential post-punk pioneers.
After opening, I repeat, opening for MGMT last year, Suicide has since been the subject of a cover series that will feature all the aforementioned artist. NuDoom-rave yougsters Klaxons are the latest to cover Alan Vega and Martin Rev’s back catalogue with a cover of ‘Sweetheart’, available as a download and 10-inch vinyl.
Says Alan Vega of the series, “I’m knocked out by these new versions, they just keep on coming and coming and their like whole new worlds to me…. so completely different…. and some of these new upcoming bands man, they’ve really got into it. It’s really great. It’s like a soap opera you know, what’s gonna happen in the next episode!”
