Justin Bieber Just Shut Down An Entire Melbourne City Block To Sing 5 Songs

If you heard screaming echoing through the streets of Melbourne at around 3:30 this afternoon, you can stop panicking.

Canadian pop bloke Justin Bieber was just casually shutting down an entire block so he could safely get inside the Hit Network building in South Melbourne, away from the literal throng of fans gathered outside.
A lucky select few (read: 300) and a bunch of media types (read: This guy) were whisked up onto the rooftop of the radio station for a short little acoustic performance by the singer, who’s in the middle of an Australian press tour to promote his new single “What Do You Mean?
With just an acoustic guitar accompanying him, Biebs stepped onto stage at around 3:30pm (he was originally due on at 3, but he was pre-occupied with whipping Hamish Blake‘s Dad at table tennis – fair enough).
And that’s when the screaming started.
From the street. On the roof. Everywhere. Everyone’s smartphones up. Everyone snapping photos maniacally, as Bieber whipped through 5 tracks, including the new single, and older hits like “Boyfriend” and “Baby.”
At one point Bieber took a moment and asked people to stop singing along, stating “There’s not a lot of production. Let’s just take a moment to appreciate the fact that I came all the way out here just to sing for you.” Which like… oh, look. He meant well by it.
The accompanying hashtag #HitTheRoof has been blowing up Twitter and Instagram all afternoon.

Like him, love him, loathe him, whatever.
The kid can sing. And a shitload of people went home happy today.
That’s probably all anyone could ever ask for.
