In a strange po-mo homage that’s part cover, part audio-visual experiment and part mind fuck, Caroline Polachek of Chairlift and Jorge Elbrecht of Violens have crafted a bouyant disco jam that synchs up perfectly with Justin Bieber’s “Never Let You Go” film clip, including new lyrics that phonetically match The Biebs’ teen-throb utterances.
The premise is pretty rad: We went on Youtube to find a video among the highest ranks of hits, and came across ‘Never Let You Go’. Went on to make what we call a ‘sgin’ (anagram of the word ‘sing’) – an original song written specifically to synch into someone else’s video on mute.”
It’s kind of like that Dark Side Of The Moon/Wizard Of Oz old wives tale except you don’t need to smoke a thousand bongs to glean a connection, the audio is purpose built and the visuals feature 2000% more longing stares and side-sliding.
Props for dreaming up such a whacky concept and including what sounds like “You stupid slut” as a lyric. Compare the videos below…
