Julia Stone, Joel Edgerton Record Duet

Joel Edgerton is taking one step further toward being Australia’s answer to Clint Eastwood after telling Tom and Alex from Triple J’s breakfast show that he has recorded a song with Joanna Newsom sound-alike, Julia Stone (of Angus and Julia Stone). Joel has already tried his hand at directing, acting and producing, but in order to reach Clint Eastwood status one also has to compose their own movie score otherwise you’re just another Roberto Benigni.

The first step is being able to at least sing a tune before you start throwing semibreves and quavers around the place, and it sounds like Joel at least has a handle on that. He told Triple J, “Recently in New York I recorded a song with Julia. She wrote a song that was for her and I to sing. It was a new experience for me to go and record music. This film and music to me, it’s a very anxious thing for me to sing and play music so it was kind of an interesting and nice experience for me to do it.”

Perhaps a recording contract is the next step for Edgerton, whose latest movie The Waiting City with Radha Mitchell and Isabel Lucas has just opened in cinemas. To see what kind of musical direction he might head in, we checked out his myspace page that revealed he’s currently listening to an eclectic mix of Miley Cyrus, Linkin Park, Elton John, Bon Jovi and Three Doors Down; however it is uncertain as to whether Joel himself is controlling all content – which also lists ‘McConaughey Passion’ a Matthew McConaughey fansite as his newest friend addition.
