John Paul Jones Dave Grohl, Josh Homme Ready Supergroup

Note: The bewigged toddler above is not John Paul Jones…

If Dave Grohl and Josh Homme’s perpetual bromance wasn’t quite cock-rocking enough for you, the addition of Led Zeppelin bassist John Paul Jones should make you jizz your pants and weep tears of blood.

Going under the moniker Them Crooked Vultures Grohl and Homme’s pairing is none to surprising considering their much publicized friendship and eerily similar career trajectory. Both were members of genre-defining early nineties outfits (Nirvana is to Grunge what Kyuss is to Stoner Rock), both currently front headline caliber stadium fillers (Foo Fighters and Queens Of The Stone Age) and both also dabble in self aware pastiche ridden side projects (Probot and Eagles Of Death Metal). They both also play drums, guitar and sing with equal aplomb.

Grohl let slip of John Paul Jones’ involvement way back in ’05, telling Mojo magazine: “The next project that I’m trying to initiate involves me on drums, Josh Homme on guitar, and John Paul Jones playing bass. That’s the next album. That wouldn’t suck.” No Dave that wouldn’t suck at all.

Anyways the power trio, who have spent some time recording in LA, have tantalized fans with news that Them Crooked Vultures will play their first gig at the Metro Chicago in Illinois on August 9, 2009. The Foo Zeppelins Of The Stone Age have also launched an official website so keep an ear out for material from the trio soon. Watch this space…
