Joey Bada$$’s Take On A Prince Jam For ‘Like A Version’ Whips Immense Sack

Like the weather in much of the country right now, this jam is hot as hellTriple J‘s annual Friday tradition known as Like a Version is officially back in business for 2018, and it hasn’t taken them long for a serious contender to step up and stake their claim for cover of the year.

Joey Bada$$ is currently swanning his way around the country on a string of headlining dates in the lead-up to his appearance at this weekend’s Sugar Mountain festival in the Arts Precinct of Melbourne’s Southbank.

Having fully recovered from eye injuries hilariously suffered after staring directly into a solar eclipse, Bada$$ took to the hallowed studios of Triple J to lay down a jam so hot it violates the total fire ban.

With Aunty officials gifting him the big room, the New York young gun brought a full band with him to put a remixed spin on Prince‘s beyond iconic smooth jam When Doves Cry.

Rather than spin it as recorded, Bada$$ laid down his own lyrical spin on things, morphing the tune into When Thugs Cry.

Did we mention that it is SHIT BLOODY HOT? Because god damn, find some floor space nearby to groove on and crank this sucker up to maximum volume. It whips a significant amount of sack.

Beyond the tune, how well is this dang thing shot and lit? It looks absolutely gorgeous.

Seems the Christmas break has more than recharged Triple J’s video team. Top shelf stuff, right there.

Joey Bada$$ is appearing at the Forum in Melbourne tonight, at a show that is already extremely sold out. He’s scheduled to hit Sugar Mountain on the Dodds Street Stage at 8pm tomorrow (January 20).
