Jay-Z May Face Big Lawsuit For ‘Big Pimpin’

Jay-Z is facing a lawsuit from the estate of an Egyptian composer whose tune is heavily sampled for Hova’s hit, ‘Big Pimpin’.

Pitchfork reports that a California judge has given the all clear for the late composer Baligh Hamdy‘s relatives to proceed with the suit, which claims that the Jigga Man has violated the original composer’s ‘moral rights’ under Egyptian law. The song, which features UGK and was famously reworked into the groove rap fans know and love by Timbaland, had previously been legally disputed, with the matter first heard back in 2007. However, Jay-Z’s lawyers managed to successfully argue that the song was allowed to be used under the 1909 Copyright Act, as it was over fifty years old. They may have a harder time fighting against the law of Hamdy’s homeland, which may cost this big pimp some seriously big dollars.
