The star of Dawson’s Creek, James Van Der Berk Van Der Beek, has had a curious time in the entertainment industry ever since he edged away from the ~cultured~ small-town teen that made him a star.
While his costars Michelle Williams, Joshua Jackson and Katie Holmes have become pretty huge celebs, ol’ James has spent his time appearing in Ke$ha music videos, playing himself in a short-lived sitcom, and cementing his status as the reigning God of memes.
It has now been confirmed that Van Der Beek is well and truly continuing his cooked approach to showbiz in 2K17, as he’s impersonating EDM producer Diplo in a six-part series for Viceland.
The show – tentatively titled ‘What Would Diplo Do?‘ has Van Der Beek also serving as showrunner and co-executive producer alongside IRL Diplo. It has been described, cryptically by the elusive VDB, as “not too serious, but it’s not cynical.”
Diplo obviously loves to take the piss outta himself, as this isn’t the first time the actor has played him. Noting their physical resemblance, the DJ got Van Der Beek onboard in a Mad Decent clip, which is a satire of a ~day in the life~ of the one and only Major Lazer crew member.

I thought Diplo was meant to be a douche, but is he actually some kind of meta genius? Similarly, is Van Der Beek a self-aware satirical mastermind; paving the way for more iconic memes and therefore more reasons to live?
Only time will tell. ‘What Would Diplo Do?’ (a meaning of life that I am sure we will all soon subscribe to) is scheduled to drop mid-this year.
