Over 1 Million People Played *NSYNC On May 1 Because Of That Stupid Meme

Yeah, yeah you all know the meme. At the start of May when it’s “gonna be May” and everyone says it in that weird early-00s, Maggi noodle-headed Justin Timberlake twang.

Well, it turns out that y’all love that dang once-a-year meme so much that we’re giving the *NSYNC fellas a little extra pocket money around May 1st.

Streams of the iconic late 90’s/early 00’s boy band – which spawned JT’s career and somehow ended in Lance Bass going to fucking SPACE* – spiked a whopping 176% in the US alone, so you can believe it was probably a shit-tonne more than that if you factor in the rest of the world.

The big ol’ spike coincides with both the start of May, and the day that the teenage heart-throbs (who are extremely middle-aged now) scored themselves a star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame.

Billboard reported that Nielsen Music ratings clocked the massive bop ‘It’s Gonna Be Me’ was the big hitter, with the song being played over 1 million times over April 30 and May 1. Hoo boy that’s a lot of earnest boy band content there, my friends.

A meme that was already teetering on the edge of being bad and dead, JC Chasez from the group publicly acknowledged the viral meme during their Hollywood Star presentation. I’m sorry to have to tell you this, but the meme is dead now. Don’t @ me.

I can assure you that the stock levels of the May meme plummeted as soon as JC uttered the iconic line for as soon as the meme becomes self-aware, it’s done.

Sorry, I don’t make the rules.

*correction: Lance Bass did not make it to space, he got removed from the trip by the Russian Space Agency. Aaaaahahahaha
