Iggy Pop, Eternally Shirtless Man, Drops Sydney Opera House Shows For 2019

Call your cool older cousin who once gifted you that Stooges cd when you were like nine because Iggy Pop has announced his first-ever shows at the Sydney Opera House next year.

Playing the famed Concert Hall on Monday April 15 and Wednesday April 19, the noted Grandfather of Punk will likely somehow defy the dress codes of one of the most coveted venues in the country and perform shirtless, as is his want to do.

It will be the first time he’s performed in Sydney in six years, with the last showing of the rock great was when he played with The Stooges at Hordern Pavilion back in 2013.

With a career spanning almost 50 years and noted as the man who invented the stage dife, it’s expected Iggy Pop perform hits from his time with The Stooges, as well as seminal works from his solo career, including 1977’s Lust For Life and 1986’s Blah-Blah-Blah.

Not sure if there will be any stage dives happening in the Opera House, but it’ll be a bloody sight to see Iggy Pop literally writhing around on the stage of the concert hall.

Tickets for the shows go on sale from 12pm AEDT on FridayDecember 14 from the Sydney Opera House website, with a sneaky members presale happening from 12pm AEDT on Wednesday, December 12.
