Iggy Azalea Reveals She Went MIA In 2015 After A “Psychotic Breakdown”

Last year was tumultuous as hell for Iggy Azalea.

In the space of a few months, she was dumped by her mentor T.I.dumped from playing at the Pittsburgh Gay Pride Rally, and engage in a seemingly never-ending number of Twitter spats with rapper Azealia Banks. Plus there was the (real or no) feud with Britney Spears. And criticisms of her performances. And a bunch of other shit. Look, it was *not* a great year, okay?

Things seemed to come to a head in June, when she cancelled her already-postponed Great Escape tour, citing a “creative change of heart” that meant it now needed more time in development.

When explaining her motivations for cancelling, Iggy hinted at possible burnout, but in an interview with Schön! Magazine (out now), she revealed that last year she had a full-on psychotic breakdown, spurred on by the endless media dragging.

“I had to have a psychotic breakdown last year,” she said. “I felt tired and stressed out.

“Last year, I felt I like I was definitely not in control of the media’s narrative of me. It made me feel very out of control of my own life or my ability to have my own perception of who I was. You don’t want someone else writing your narrative and making you the villain.

“Then I just realised that, you know what, you can’t control it and I think I accepted that and moved on to living my life.”

Hells to the yes. Here’s her bangin’ cover shot:

This is what Iggy said last year about her decision to cancel.

Speaking to Seventeen: “On top of that [the change of heart], mentally, to be honest with you, I just feel I deserve a break. I’ve been going non-stop for the past two years, nearly every single day. I’m not in a bad place. I think sometimes when you say you need a mental break, people are like, “A mental break? Be sure you don’t have a breakdown because you’re sad.” No, not necessarily. It’s very emotionally draining to be on all the time and going all the time, planning all the time. It’s a lot, and it’s tough. I need a break from everything to just enjoy what I worked so hard for, and I don’t really feel like I’ve had a chance to do that. I just need a break to figure out what I want my sound to progress to, and I need a break to figure out how I want my visuals to progress.”

Her long-awaited second album is due to be released later this year, and there *might* be a tour. Watch this space.

Last year we spoke to Iggy about getting fit AF, and she ended up bestowing rap names onto Tony Abbott, Bronwyn Bishop, Matt Okine, Corey Worthington and Jai Courtney. Ledge.
