Iggy Azalea Spent Time In Rehab To Address Anger Issues And Mental Health

As she prepares for the release of her second album, Iggy Azalea has revealed that she recently spent time in an Arizona rehab facility, at the insistence of her new management, in order to deal with anger issues and her general mental health.

Speaking with Billboard, the Australian rapper explained that her team asked her to come to the state for a “planning meeting”, but she arrived to find herself in the midst of an intervention, with her representatives urging her to enter treatment.

She told the publication that she was resistant to the idea at first:

“They were like, ‘We think you’re really talented and you can go to the studio and make hits all day, but we don’t know if, you know, someone says something about you and you have a reaction it could ruin a branding deal. We need you to go and speak to these people and make sure that you’re mentally prepared to come out with new music.’ I didn’t want to go there – I didn’t like the idea of being sent away somewhere. I was pissed.”

The ‘Fancy‘ rapper eventually came around to the idea, and said that her time in treatment was ultimately beneficial, and taught her, amongst other things, to “identify and control” knee-jerk reactions to certain things. She went on to say:

“I’ve never really sat down and had an honest conversation with professional people. It was good to say something to somebody who could give me the tools and information on how to make my life manageable when I’m feeling those things. So it was really useful – I’m glad that I went.”

Iggy Azalea announced her second album, Digital Distortion, in late 2015. Though she now has a tattoo bearing its name, its release was ultimately cancelled, and she eventually parted ways with her label Def Jam, shifting across to sister label Island.

She has since announced plans to release another album, entitled Surviving The Summer, led off by the single ‘Savior‘, which arrived in February.
