Let’s be real here for a second. One celebrity throwing thinly veiled barbs at another isn’t really news. It’s entertaining as hell, sure. But it’s not news. It’s the grease that helps keep the cycle turning whilst the media industry sits on their hands waiting for those jerks in parliament to be jerks again.
So with that in mind, here’s this: A few days ago Nicki Minaj had a dip at “our” Iggy Azalea during the BET Awards. Let’s not try and pretend that it didn’t happen, because it did. There ain’t no denying it. Whilst accepting her fifth consecutive Best Female Hip Hop Artist award, Minaj had a wee crack at Iggy and the dirty rumours that she maybe, kind of, possibly doesn’t write her own rhymes. “What I want the world to know about Nicki Minaj is that when you hear Nicki Minaj spit, Nicki Minaj wrote it,” Minaj stated during her acceptance speech. Yikes.
But in true diplomatic fashion, the pair have attempted to brush it all under the rug and pretend that it wasn’t really the thing that the media leapt all over like vultures on a rotting desert carcass.
Presenting the following social media gathered evidence, your honour:
I’ve congratulated Iggy on the success of Fancy, publicly. She should be very proud of that. All the women nominated should b proud.

That will never change my desire to motivate women to write. Our voices have to be heard. I hope I inspire up & coming females to do that.

Also, just wanna say I think it’s dope that there was even a debate & conversation about who would win “best female rapper” this year.

Usually I feel like the award is overlooked. I’m happy there was anticipation in regards to who’d get it & congrats to nicki for winning.

So there you have it. Beef squashed.
In slightly more positive news, Iggy’s smash hit Fancy has now hit its sixth consecutive week at number 1 on the US Billboard charts, making her the longest leading number 1 female rapper in US history, surpassing Lil Kim for her part in 2001’s collaborative hit Lady Marmalade.
You go, Iggy Azalea.
