Idris Elba Joined Lime Cordiale At Their Syd Show & I Didn’t Have This On My 2021 Bingo Sheet

Lime Cordiale might have a Hottest 100 win under their belts and be selling out gigs left right and centre, but picking up Idris Elba (yes that Idris Elba) as a fan and collaborator might just top it all on serious hype levels. Idris Elba – the same one from The WireLuther, and the MCU – loves Sydney’s Lime Cordiale and hopped up on stage with the boys in Sydney on the weekend.

Yep, Idris Elba has joined the swathes of other celebrities yeeting to Australia, now that a lot of film productions are here because it’s the safest place in the world to do movies. That in itself is just baffling.

While he’s been in town filming the new Thor film alongside Chris Hemsworth and Matt Damon, Idris has been working on his musically-creative projects on the side, including writing some lyrics to work in with Oli and Louis Leimbach. And those who got along to the band’s Sydney show on March 14 got to experience it first-hand.

Imagine being all psyched up to go to what’s probably your first live gig in about a year and suddenly Idris Elba pops out to perform. I’d absolutely lose my mind.

Turns out they’ve fully written a song together and did the ~world premiere~ at their Sydney show, and a bunch of fans were smart enough to whip out their phones and take a cheeky video so the rest of us could have a listen.

Aussie music titan and Lime Cordiale’s label boss Michael Chugg spoke with the Daily Telegraph about the collab, confirming that the lads have been spending time together over the last few days working on music in the studio, and that “he is absolutely in love with their music”.

Knowing they’ve been working together on music I’m very intrigued to what that’s gonna sound like. Are we thinking Idris is going to spit some bars over a classic Lime surf-pop riff? Or is Idris maybe going to get behind the ones and twos to put a bit of DJ work or production on a new track or two?

I guess time will tell, but please Idris, keep showing up at gigs. It truly is such a treat.
