“One Life Stand”, Hot Chip’s forthcoming album and lead single, is a terrible, terrible pun but the sentiment is so damn romantic we’ll let it slide. To be honest it’s a sentiment we’ve been noticing more and more of lately. Maybe it’s a reflection of the world’s new found austerity or a result of the cultural gatekeepers getting older, but, even in dance music for God’s sake, hedonistic dalliances with strangers have now been replaced with that noble pursuit of a significant other.
It’s ridiculously cheesy stuff but when bespectacled frontman Alexis Taylor croons “I only wanna be your one life stand/Tell me do you stand by your whole man” it’s hard not to get caught up in the sentimentality. Ahh the warm, dependable glow of monogamy. Tiger Woods, are you listening?
