Because Yeezy does whatever the hell Yeezy pleases, the rapper has just delivered a surprise address to students at the hallowed institution of higher learning that is Oxford, aka the Beyoncé of universities.
Per The Independent, the speech, at the Museum Of Natural History, came after “many hours” of negotiation with the university. 350 students attended, from a ballot of 5000.
Kanye walked on to the stage to a minute-long standing ovation, then spent some time shifting the furniture around to make the whole thing look more aesthetically pleasing.
Naturally, there were a number of choice quotes for you to embroider onto Kanye pillows or share on Tumblr. These include:
On society:
“We have the resources as a civilisation to make a utopia, but we’re led by the most greedy and the least noble.”
On beauty:
“Beauty has been stolen from the people and is being sold back to them as luxury.”
On ambition:
“If I could have done it again, I would have gone to the Art Institute over the American Academy. My goal, if I was going to do art – fine art – would have been to become Picasso or greater. That always sounds so funny to people, comparing yourself to someone who has done so much, and that’s a mentality that suppresses humanity.”
On ego:
“One of my biggest Achilles’ heels has (been my) ego. And if I, Kanye West, can remove my ego, I think there’s hope for everyone.”
On My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy:
“Chris Rock (and) everyone else at every single media publication called My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy the best album of the last 25 years.”
On famous friends:
“Obama calls (my) home phone, by the way.”
On race and class:
“They think that we’re done with racism. What about elitism? What about separatism? What about classism? We’ve had The Cosby Show, Obama is president, Beyoncé’s great … that’s passed. But you’re still taught the division by class, especially in (the) UK. We have the ability to approach our race like ants, or we have the ability to approach our race like crabs.”
On economics:
“Clothing should be like food. There should never be a $5000 sweater. You know what should cost $5000? A car.”
On strangers grabbing his hand at shows and saying ‘we’re going to use these moving lights’:
“If I’m at a show and a stranger grabs my hand and says we’re going to use these moving lights, I’ll scream at the top of my f**king lungs.”
Go forth and use these quotes well.
