Icelandic Metal Band Hatari Brought Some Wild BDSM Energy To Eurovision

Eurovision, Hatari

The finals of the Eurovision Song Contest are currently underway, and one of the hot favourites to win are Icelandic group Hatari, who bought some wild BDSM energy to the stage with their performance.

With leather costumes, spikes, jets of flame and a large round cage of some sort, Hatari performed their song ‘Hatrið mun sigra‘, or ‘Hate Will Prevail‘, which went to number one in their home country. You can check it out below:

This year’s contest saw the return of Eurovision’s drag and trans champions from years gone by, including Israel‘s Dana International, who won in 1998, and Austria‘s Conchita Wurst, who took home the crown in 2014.

Speaking to NBC News recently, Hatari singer Matthías Tryggvi Haraldsson opened up about the band’s own approach to sexuality, saying:

“We haven’t identified as a queer band as such, but we do touch upon themes like gender fluidity, masculinity and femininity, repression and expression, and others – which many audience members identify with, not least of all in the queer scene.”

You can watch a live stream of Eurovision on the song contest’s official YouTube channel.
