“Mmm Bop” is but a fading memory, so it’s quite a shock that the tween-friendly brother band Hanson have suddenly blipped back onto the pop music radar with a new single and accompanying music video.
Interestingly, the clip – which is for the song “Thinking ‘Bout Somethin” [PS why didn’t they drop the ‘g’ from ‘thinking’?] has continued an ongoing trend that has been appearing in film, television and music video for years: the ‘Dancing In The Street’ concept, whereby the main character/band member/singer is joined by an anonymous company of professional dancers and infectious merriment ensues.
Bjork’s “It’s Oh So Quiet” is the classic example.
You can hate all you want but I think this Blues Brothers inspired Hanson clip is kind of fun.

Woo!
Musical theatre, of course, does the ‘Dancing In The Street’ formation better than anyone else:
And when you’re watching Ferris Bueller’s Day Off this is the moment you really really wish you were him:
There have also been some cute attempts in more recent cinema too:
… that was then paid homage to in a television commercial:
TV shows have also gotten on board:
And then there are those spontaneous real-life moments that have thankfully been caught on film:
Happy Friday everyone!
