Grinderman Call It Quits At Meredith

Grinderman are no more. The band announced their split during Saturday’s headline set at Meredith Music Festival, ending a five year tenure which spawned two albums, countless music videos and a thorough investigation of gladiatorial leisure wear. “That’s it for Grinderman. It’s over.” declared Nick Cave. “See you all in another ten years when we’ll be even older and uglier.”

The band – Nick Cave, Warren Ellis, Martyn Casey and Jim Sclavunos – formed in 2006 in London and went on to release two self-titled albums, Grinderman and Grinderman 2, both produced by Aussie Nick Launay. Their latest effort was nominated for three ARIAs this year, including Best Group and Album Of The Year.

All members will still take part in Cave’s Bad Seeds who are rumoured to begin work on a new album next year. Even if they don’t, the former Grindermen have plenty to busy themselves with in the meantime. Ellis has confirmed a new Dirty Three record slated for release in March, Casey may extend his touring duties with The Triffids and Sclavunos will produce the debut LP from UK upstarts Black Moth. Cave is probably writing another novel or something…

R.I.P. Grinderman.
