GRACE WOODROOFE: NEXT HEARTBREAK

There are certainly a lot of river-running-deep outfits out there, but self-described indie-blues chanteuse Grace Woodroofe sings with such sunken honesty, you can’t help but listen to her story. An independent woman alive with power, Grace Woodroofe is a hugely talented Perthian solo artist with ginormous things coming her way. I had the pleasure of sharing a banana split and Jameson with Grace one midnight back in Perth last winter, and we had spoken about the melancholy of being away from the lovers who love you, and the big bad world.

During her set when I saw her play recently, she looked straight at me, her eyelashes on fire with what she does best running through her. As Etta James once sung, ‘There ain’t no easy way to learn how to fly:’ but seeing Grace play with her typical relaxed energy it soon became apparent that the girl has learnt how to do just that. At just 19 years old with lyrics such as “You took my heart/ and broke it in two/ Is that the best you can do?/ You’re like a temporary tattoo,” she could be your next heartbreak. Watch out: she’s a beauty with a brain, and some bad-ass guitar talent to match.
