From the breadth of your bank account to the tightness of your pants, the crucial signifiers of what makes someone cool is so amorphous/subjective that any attempts to quantify it would be futile and one would assume, really uncool. But that hasn’t stopped GQ Magazine from unveiling their Top 50 Coolest Men in the World based on “an enviable sense of savoir faire, a talent for transforming the mundane into the extraordinary, or just a really edgy haircut“. Judging from that criteria alone Gothic illusionist Criss Angel should have topped the list but the top honour actually went to Prince Harry, a “soldier, ambassador, polo player, playboy” who, in his mid twenties, is still benefiting from Nepotism and an enviable Royal lineage by way of phony magazine accolades.
If you care, Twilight star Robert Pattinson came in at number two while Barack Obama’s personal aide Reggie Love (who certainly has a cool name), rapper Dizzee Rascal and actor Jason Schwartzman rounded out the top five. The rest of the list was mainly comprised of musicians: Julian Casablancas (The Strokes), Matt Helders (Arctic Monkeys), Faris Badwan (The Horrors) and Jack White (every band ever), fashion industry types: Nicola Formichetti (Lady Gaga’s stylist), Humberto Leon (Opening Ceremony owner), Waris Ahluwalia (jewelery designer) and the sons of famous people: the aforementioned Prince, Jethro Lazenby Cave (son of Nick) and Albert Cocker the seven year old son of Jarvis who GQ predicts is “heading for big things with the in-crowd”. Yep, they actually said that.
