Gotye Among GQ’s Least Influential People Of 2012

Gotye, probably high-fiving himself in a five star hotel somewhere in Sydney right now, sampling esoteric Motown records off a gold plated gramophone that Bono gave him or practicing his surprised face for when he wins everything but Best Female Artist at the 26th annual ARIA Awards in Sydney tonight, hasn’t had it all his way this year, inexplicably landing on usually cynicism-free men’s magazine GQ’s dubious annual countdown of The Least Influential People of the Year. A list which also includes child actor turned serial attention seeker Amanda Byrnes, “whoever directed John Carter”, and convicted murderer George Zimmerman.

Our Wally, described as “a Belgian emo guy who can’t handle a simple breakup with a hint of grace,”, “rock’s genocide” and a singer who makes “Alanis Morissette sound like Slayer”, shouldn’t really feel too deflated seeing as real measures of influence (memeability, over 350 million views on Youtube, performing live on SNL, Ashton Kutcher endorsements) suggest he’s more Barack than Byrnes when it comes to wielding influence.

Haters gon’ hate.
