During tonight’s set at the fest, frontman David Le’aupepe dedicated the song The Heart Is A Muscle to his dad who’s a “bit crook” but still listening to his son perform to thousands over the radio while in hospital.

Last month, Tattersall Teleso Le’aupepe celebrated his 70th birthday. David wrote in a beautiful Instagram post dedicated to him:

“Everything I do in life is coloured by a desire to make him proud of me, and as I’ve grown older and realised things, recognised my missteps I’ve decided that any kind life I lead must be worthy of his respect, decency, kindness, humility, humour and outrageous Samoan warmth + hospitality.

“He’s been crook for a while now, so pictures like this become more important every passing day, so I wanted to share some nice ones.”

Following, THIAM, the band performed Let Me Down Easy, Magnolia, and Say Yes To Life just to name a few.

Per Triple J, David also did some surfing:

Videos haven’t quite hit social media yet but I’m sure GOY will upload some snippets in the coming hours or tomorrow so we’ll all inevitably cry.

In the mean time, have a sob over these pictures:

These, all of these:

Earlier this week David announced he was auctioning off his iconic Green Guild Starfire IV – the guitar he wrote just about every song on Go Farther In Lightness with –  for charity with all proceeds going straight to RAICES – the Refugee And Immigrant Centre For Education and Legal Services. The non-profit organisation provides free and low-cost legal services to immigrant families and refugees in Texas.

“I hope it goes to someone who’ll use it and love it the way that I did. It has been a part of me through the most significant period in my career and life and I hope it finds a loving home so that others in need can find a home in America after having to leave their own.”

There are still three days left of bidding with the guitar currently going for USD $6,000.

Sending lots of love to David and his family.
