HUGE: Gang of Youths announced that the band’s new single The Angel of 8th Avenue from their long-awaited new album is dropping on Wednesday and I cannot freakin’ wait.

Gang of Youths announced the news on their socials on Monday, just after the band wiped their social media clean and started posting cryptic clues on Insta.

The new single will launch on June 16 at 2am AEST time. So set those alarms ASAP, or even have your own mini listening party with a bunch of keen mates.

The band also hinted to the single launch last week, with a cryptic post with the date 15.06.2021. However, it wasn’t clear whether they were launching the full album, or just a single.

It’s been over three years since Gang of Youths released their last, award-winning album, Go Farther In Lightness. The 2017 album debuted at #1 on the ARIA charts, the album was nominated for eight ARIAs, and won four of them: Album Of The Year, Best Group, Best Rock Album and Producer of the Year (for Gang of Youths & Adrian Breakspear).

Fans of the Aussie rock group have been eagerly waiting for this new album for yonks. But as the saying goes, you can’t rush perfection and I’m sure this new single (and album) will be just that…perfection.

Frontman David Le’aupepe has still been busy in the interim, appearing on Thelma Plum‘s 2019 album Better in Blak. The band have also been touring the globe off the back of their last album’s success, developing a loyal fanbase overseas.

No news on when the actual album will launch, but one can only assume it will be very, very, very soon. It may also involve the colour blue and what looks like a used tampon – if these mysterious social uploads are anything to go by.
