Flume’s “Fuck Pauline Hanson” Mic Drop Had Splendour Punters Frothin’

Some Aussie music legends have built a career by intertwining their politics and their tunes. Nobody is surprised when Peter Garrett interrupts his electrocuted marionette routine to unload some jangly pop-rock truths, and The Whitlams are straight-up named after one of our most revered PM’s.

That’s all well and good, but their music is still built around a dude and a microphone. How, pray tell, does an already-iconic electronic music producer go about spruiking their political message when their choons feature nearly 0% of their own voice?

If you’re Flume at Splendour In The Grass, the answer is to bust out an hour-long set full of apolitical belters – as per usual – before materialising a mic and telling the punters “fuck Pauline Hanson.” 

That’s all it takes, and sometimes, that’s all you need to say:

And that, ladies and gents, was the comment that brought a close to Australia’s premiere camping fest – a consensus opinion from a consensus musical gun. We’re eagerly awaiting that Pauline Pantsdown collab, tbh.
