You know what top music dawgs 5SOS, The Rubens, Alison Wonderland & 360 all have in common? Once upon a time they were all emerging artists trying to make their way in the music world.

So to honour their humble beginnings, the ‘uge, good lookin’ Aussie names are fronting the newly unleashed EXTRA® Support Acts program. It’s a new initiative supporting up + coming musicians via YouTube‘s pre-roll ad space.

The partnership between EXTRA® GumUniversal Music Australia and YouTube will see 16 artists paired with one of the 4 x aforementioned royalty based on music genre. They’ll all promote and support the emerging artists by replacing the ads that run before their videos to digital support act slots.

This will expose the emerging artist’s tunes to an audience they might’ve been unable to tap previously. Yes, much like a support act at a concert! Goodie, you’re getting it now.

Besides being a damn wholesome idea in general, this will also surely catapult each and every artist involved onto the main stage. The 5SOS clan is understandably stoked to be part. They said:

As an Australian band, we are incredibly proud to be involved in EXTRA® Support Acts. To be able to support new emerging talent from Australia is something we are both excited and passionate about. There’s some great artists involved and we’re looking forward to seeing these musician’s careers develop.

You, a (digital) crowd member, will too be playing a part in unearthing Australia’s next big muso. The program is calling upon us to back the grassroots talent by casting your vote on EXTRA®‘s Support Acts hub on Youtube. Also, of course, by engaging with the up n’ comer’s choons, with the Support Act with the most views in each of 4 x groups crowned.

Crowned with what? The title of “winners”, clearly, as well as being slated the next musical force to come through that genre.

The 4 x winners will also receive mentoring from the main artists that they supported, cop a studio session and perform at the 2018 Universal Music ARIA Week showcase, which is a performance in front of the industry’s maje execs, mind you.

Voting is open between August 16 – September 30, with winners announced mid-October. Get amongst it all HERE.
