“Every Icon” Lady Gaga Wants Your ‘Applause’ For New Album Art

“I’m every icon. I’m an icon that is made out of all the colours on the palette at every time,” Lady Gaga tells WWD in an interview accompanying the unveiling of the album art for ‘Applause’, the first single from her third album-as-app as art experience ARTPOP
Looking like a sad amalgam of icons like Edith Piaf, Pierrot, and Heath Ledger’s Joker after having lost a fight to Homer Simpson’s make-up gun, Gaga also divulges that prior to recent reconstructive surgery, her hip had almost entirely disintegrated; that she’ll perform ‘Applause’, which is about “this exclamation, ‘Give me that thing that I love. Give it to me. I’m ready, start the music’” at the VMAs and that there’s an image bank of 300 images accompanying the ambitious album, four of which you can see below.
When pressed for some insight into the artistic direction of the album art, enigmatic as always, she replies, “What do you see? I need to get your reading first.”
“Otherwise it’s not art.”
Biophilia I mean ARTPOP is due for release November 11th. Gaga will perform the first single ‘Applause’ at the MTV VMAs August 25th.
