Even Gotye’s Dad Got Nominated For An ARIA This Year

And so our collective civic duty to recognise Gotye means that even papa De Backer could win an ARIA award this year. Today, painter Frank De Backer was named among this year’ “technical” nominees for his part in co-creating the cover art for his son’s third studio album, Making Mirrors.

Other “Artisan” categories announced include Producer of the Year and Engineer of the Year while Classical, Jazz and World Music albums of the year will compete in the “Fine Arts” category – a banner euphemism for the untelevised adult contemporary awards that no one will ever care about. Thank god we don’t have to sit through that.

Check out the first round of nominees below…

The upcomming Gotye coronation ceremony will take place in November at the Sydney Entertainment Centre.
