DZ Deathrays Did ‘Love Shack’ On Like A Version & The Whole Shack Shimmied

If you’ll allow me to spin a personal yarn for a moment: Years ago I developed this weird habit in the throes of unemployed, insomnia riddled late nights where I’d sing various songs in the unmistakable voice of Fred Schneider of the B-52s. Not all songs work, of course. His cadence is too jangly to fit perfectly into a large amount of pop songs. But a few work incredibly well, and it owns. The best of all? Killing in the Name by Rage Against The Machine. You would not believe how great it is shouting “FUCK YOU I WON’T DO WHAT YOU TELL ME” in Schneider’s psychobilly beach house-ass voice. It works well. It works too well.

But, I digress.

DZ Deathrays had their number called at long last and thus they got to prance on in to the Triple J studios for a tilt at Like a Version, and because summer’s bloody well on the way, Gooch Palms came along too and everyone had a nice little time belting through ye olde B-52s standard Love Shack.

You’ll either absolutely love it, or absolutely hate it, there’s no middle ground on this one.

But one thing’s for sure, DZ Deathrays’ Chrysler is as big as a whale, and it’s about to set sail.

Folks? They’re lining up.

Outside.

Just to get down.
