Over a decade has passed passed since Dr. Dre released his last studio LP, the virtuosic, visceral and forgivably skit-ridden 2001. Eleven years. Long enough to earn Dre the most dubious designation in pop music, “The Axl Rose of hip hop” and far enough to beg the question – do motherfuckers act like they forgot about Dre? Not quite. Dre’s long gestating followup, Detox, hits shelves next year and the video for lead single “Kush” (a highly desirable strain of cannabis of course!) dropped last Saturday. And while the world needs another club jam glamorizing weed as much as Dre needs to endorse Dr. Pepper, we’re glad to see him back. Snoop and Akon ride shotgun in an Inception style video where everything is frozen but our tip-toeing protagonists. Kind of like Eminem’s “Guilty Conscience” video but with a billion more dollars.
