Donald Glover Is Being Sued By His Old Label For Unpaid Streaming Royalties

The bad blood between Donald Glover and his former label continues, with news today that Glassnote Records is suing the actor and musician to recover an alleged $700,000 in unpaid Childish Gambino streaming royalties.

According to TMZ, who published details of the claim earlier today, the label says that it has paid Glover $8 million in royalties, with a further $2 million due in the coming months, but that it, in turn, has not received money it is owed for streaming royalties.

Donald Glover released his first three Childish Gambino albums on Glassnote, before making the switch to RCA this year, but his rift with the label dates back to at least 2014, around the time of the ‘Sweatpants’ video.

In a series of now-deleted Tweets, he said that the release of the video was not handled correctly by the label, adding  “we were told a lot of things were gonna happen and they were all lies, so I’m done, someone buy me out of this contract.”

He had earlier taken a swipe at Glassnote for allegedly “leaking” ‘Sweatpants’ before he was ready to release it, saying that impatience and “lust for money” were ruining the campaign that he had planned for his upcoming album release.

Glassnote also claims that Glover recently made a demand for $1.5 million from them to resolve their dispute over streaming royalties. He himself has not yet commented on the matter.
